Information technology has been continuously revolutionizing the way we live; information is now available instantaneously and in incredible amounts. The big question that remains is how these emerging technologies are affecting the personal, social, educational, and political aspects of the business world and of our lives. Probably the one aspect of Information Technology that has the largest affect on the business world is the World Wide Web [2]. The Web has basically eliminated any limits on communication around the world and has largely improved the efficiency of almost all aspects of the business industry. We see the impact of information technology on the library as the core institution of universities around the country and even the World. The World Wide Web will impact greatly upon the library whether the library wants it to or not, and this impact will in large part be dictated to the library by forces both technologically and socially based, and thus beyond the libraryââ¬â¢s overall control. The Web is changing the balance between the library as provider of information and teaching faculty as providers of education [2]. One part of the World Wide Web that has provided the business industry and the rest of the World with the most conveniences is E-mail. This has totally reshaped the marketing scheme for many businesses across the globe. ââ¬Å"E-mail marketing campaigns are faster, cheaper and more effective than direct mail campaigns and will ultimately supersede them, according to a study from market research company Gartner Incâ⬠[3]. Many companies still use the postal service as their primary campaigns tool, but e-mail marketing campaigns can be put together in seven to ten business days, compared with four to six weeks to complete a direct mail campaigns.
